Video Conferencing Now Available at the Library
The Andover Public Library now offers video chat capability as part of our public computer services. The service is available to adults and remote assistance is offered by the library staff. Appointments are required to use library computers.
Due to the increase in video conferencing, tele-health appointments, and the use of online chat to keep connected to family, friends, and work, the Andover Public Library has recently expanded the technology services offered to the community. Adults interested in utilizing the computer station equipped with video chatting capabilities are encouraged to contact the library to set up an appointment or talk to staff for more details. The new station is located in a private location inside the library.
“Patron privacy is extremely important to us. We know that having access to video conferencing technology is a need in our community. We want to make sure that we can meet the changing needs while ensuring that our patrons feel comfortable.” Nancy Logan, Director
“There’s a lot of neat things that people are using online meetings for. I have received calls from some of our patrons who wanted to use something like Zoom to video chat with their grandchildren or were a little overwhelmed with connecting with their doctor online to video chat. We have the capability of assisting folks who are a little intimidated by the technology. We can assist them remotely within the library or talk them through an issue at a safe social distance.” Peter Hill, Technology Trainer
Community members do not need to have a library card to use public computers or the new Video Conferencing station. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 440-293-6792. The library limits normal public computer usage to one hour, however the Video Conferencing Station may be reserved for up to two hours. All computer stations are sanitized after each use.
