Why Summer Reading?
Spending time reading this summer is beneficial for all ages. Children and adults alike can improve their vocabulary and comprehension. Reading is also a great stress reliever. Here are the program details for Students and Adults:
Students benefit from participating in Summer Reading Programs. Our program sets attainable reading goals with exciting incentives. Summer Reading is fun reading. Kids can choose what they want to read for pure enjoyment. Students who take part in Summer Reading retain many of the literacy skills learned in the previous school year, putting them at an advantage when school resumes.
Babies/Toddlers ages birth to 5 can participate, too!
Your little ones will not have a reading goal, but they will have 10 easy and fun “activities” to complete. They just need to turn in their completed log to receive a prize. Each participant in this age group will receive Pet Plushie when they complete their goal. View the Toddler events here
Children ages 6 – 11 will catch the reading buzz! View the Children’s events here

For every hour of reading reached, your child will receive one ticket to enter to win one of the “Big” Prizes (One of Three Extra-Large Plushy Pillow Animals) and four “Honey Money” to use in the Hive Store.
- Hive Store: Children will earn “Honey Money” by completing reading goals. They can spend the “money” in our Hive Store, located in the Children’s Story Hour room. (Hours are listed on the reading log. Pick one up after completing registration). Kids can also earn a “Reading BEE” to help earn even more Honey Money or an extra “Big” prize ticket.
- Reading BEE: Your child can earn a Reading BEE when they check out 3 or more books. (Limit one BEE per day). The BEE can be turned in at the Hive Store to pick a “flower” for additional honey money to spend at the Store or a “Big” prize ticket.
