The Memory House by Linda Goodnight (2015)
The Peach Orchard Inn in Honey Ridge, Tennessee is both historical and mysterious. Two of my favorite attributes! After tragedy, present-day Inn Keeper, Julia Presley calmly goes about her days cooking and caring for her guests. Until one day a wonderful yet secretive stranger with a young son shows up and unsettles Julia’s calm. The man, Eli Donovan offers his help with restoring the Inn in exchange for room and board. Both Julia and Eli have hearts in need of restoration and seem to have an instant attraction. During the restoration, they find a stack of love letters from Civil War-era Peach Orchard Inn consuming them in an undying secret romance during the Inn’s violent history. As the story unfolds moving between the present-day and Civil War era, ending in a realization that both couples are very similar and the future may be bright with hope and healing (although not in the way you might guess).
